Ed Holmes is Bishop Joey of the First Church of the Last Laugh. Celebrating one high Holy Day a year, April first, Bishop Joey leads a parade in San Francisco along with the other Followers of St Stupid.
The parade originated while he was part of the Commedia del Arte group "la Familia Bologna" along with Jim Letchworth, Jack Tate, Drew Letchworth, Lee Letchworth, Paul Harkness, Barbara Reinertson and Lee Grodsky. Ed Holmes told me the very first drawing of St Stupid was drawn by his then very young daughter Jennifer on a napkin after the parade in the spring of 1981.
About five years after the parades started he was arrested during this fete, and Janet and I ran the parade the next year, while Ed was on the road with Antenna Theatre. Soon after Ed was hired by San Francisco Mime Troupe, he has been Directing and performing with the group for about two decades.
